Carl Helder

Carl Carl Helder has been teaching and making music for over 19 years in northern New Jersey. Carl was first introduced to the piano at the age of 5 when he began lessons with Prof. Josef Totzauer, Leipzig Conservatory of Music, in Ridgewood. In his teens, he taught himself to play the guitar and bass while preparing college audition repertoire with Joanne Teubner. Carl has a BM in Music Education from William Paterson University where he studied piano with Gary Kirkpatrick and minored in voice studying with Stephen Oosting.

After graduating cum laude and being named Outstanding Senior in Music Education by William Paterson's faculty in 1994, Carl began performing and teaching music full-time (both privately and in New Jersey's schools). Carl is currently on staff at Glen Rock High School where he directs the Concert Choir, Madrigal Choir, and Women's Choir. Mr. Helder also teaches courses in Music Theory and Music Technology. His work has involved being Musical Director for many high school and community theater productions including A Chorus Line, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Joseph, Pippin, and West Side Story to name just a few.

Carl continues to expand his musical experiences in all variety of styles from classical to pop, rock to jazz, electronic music, and everything in between. He has performed with original and cover bands throughout his career and worked for several years in the corporate band circuit playing popular music from the 1940's to today. Carl made his first record at the age of 16 and has been composing and recording ever since. He was involved with the home studio revolution in the 1980's and embraced computers and MIDI for making music early on. Helder Music is a labor of love for Carl and his talented wife Apryl. Together they hope to help you achieve your musical goals.
